Here at Emmett and Smith we fervently believe that our repartition is our strongest asset. We will always endeavour to provide our customers the best possible service we can, whether the customer is a multinational company or a lone pensioner.

We at Emmett and Smith are an independent family business, with family values. We believe that going the extra mile for our customers should always come as our standard service.

We at Emmett and Smith we are very proud of our history and can trace our family’s involvement in the plumbing industry back to the late 19th century.

We know from the 1891 census records that one of our founders, Harold Benjamin Smith, was working in the Manchester area as a plumber.

We are unsure of the exact date in which Emmett and Smith commenced trading as Plumbers, Heating and Sanitary Engineers, but we believe the business was founded by Alfred Emmett and Harold Smith around 1904.

Ernest Smith, son of Harold, joined the family business from leaving school in 1925. Ernest was enrolled in the Worshipful Company of Plumbers in 1931, and he continued to run the business along with Alfred Emmett after the death of Harold in 1931. Alfred Emmett passed away in the 1940, ending the involvement of the Emmett family within the business. As a mark of respect Ernest continued to proudly keep Emmett name.

Ernest was passionate about his work, and continued to manage the business until his retirement in 1995 at the age of 88. Ernest sadly passed away in the year 2000.

Gary Hughes, the current owner of Emmett and Smith, is the great grandson of Harold Smith. Gary joined the family business as an apprentice in 1980.
